Pandit Bhimsen Joshi is no more
Last week the world of music lost a legent when Indian classical guru Pandit Bhimsen Joshi passed away in Pune on Jan: 24. He was 88. The great artist was born in the state of Karnataka and was not even a teenager when he took to music and stepped out of his house looking for a mentor. He belonged to the Kirana gharana of music and was particularly known for his brilliant khayal gaeki.
He also sang devotional songs with equal ease and mastery. His guru was Sawai Gandharva, a prominent student of Ustad Abdul Karim Khan of the Kirana gharana
